Yes, blackening of silver happens over time. In a tropical country like India with high pollution levels, oxidation of silver is normal. We test all our products in an independent laboratory (Picture of certificate). Also note that human skin has its own unique chemistry and silver as well gold react differently with different skin types.

Heavily perfumed lotions and creams as well as perfume and deo sprays do not go well with silver. Ensure that you use these products before you put on your jewellery. After removing the jewellery wipe it clean with a dry cloth, air it for a while before you put it away in your jewellery box.

Take a bowl of clean water big enough to immerse your darkened silver jewellery. Add a few drops of a washing liquid specifically meant for silk or woollen fabrics and soak the jewellery in it for an hour. Take it out and do the following:

• If it is a piece with stone settings then rub it gently with your hand or a soft cloth
• If it is a plain silver jewellery rub it gently with an old tooth brush whose bristles have softened significantly.

After rubbing, wash it with water, wipe it dry with a clean cloth, air it and store it away. The piece would be considerably brighter than before. 

Please do not try to rub toothpaste, cola or any other detergent as suggested in some cleaning hack videos.
